mr. fish

design for a cause.

mr. fish was born from a simple doodle in my journal. I am the type of person who can be found constantly doodling, putting pen to paper to express what’s in my mind! I was also volunteering as a mentor with Dreams for Kids DC (now called So Kids SOAR) which supported youth with disabilities. I decided I would put my design skills to use by putting it on a sweatshirt and donating 100% of the profits to DFKDC. I then grew my line of designs to other non-profits including LIVES Tokyo and WRRAP. You can visit my e-commerce store here.

Overview

Outcome.

I used the platform Bonfire, which produces them unit by unit, instead of requiring batch orders. They also provide a direct route from the purchaser to the 501(c)(3) and deal with the funds logistics, which was really helpful. Through mr.fish, I raised $182.52 (USD) to donate to DFKDC. From this, I was inspired to create various designs for other causes including LIVES Tokyo (for disability awareness and support in Tokyo) and Women’s Reproductive Rights Assistance Project (WRRAP).

Design Process.

It all began with a doodle in my journal. And then I took a picture of my hand-drawn sketch, and imported it into Procreate. I then outlined and shaded it all in Procreate to create the image you see on the right. This is just a simple passion project and I am hoping to put out several lines that can culminate in a world of these creatures that are helping others in need, one cozy jumper at a time!

100% Profits Donated.

This creative project made a real impact. That is what I want to do with my art.
